The conference takes place from the 6th to the 8th of May at the Wartburg in Eisenach, Germany.
At the Wartburg, Luther translated the New Testament from Greek into German, and has thus made sacred scripture available
to the public. The Wartburgtagung (Wartburg-Conference) which focuses on human biotechnology, also intents to bring about
a translation. We will attempt to address not questions of ultimate truths, rather vital question of great human relevance.
Eminent natural scientists (Noble laureate Prof. Dr. Chirstiane Nuesslein-Volhard; Prof. Dr. Hans Robert Schöler) convey
knowledge of the latest scientific research (e.g. stem cell research) to the public. Outstanding philosophical and theological
ethicists (Prof. Dr. Reiner Anselm; Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Knoepffler; Prof. Dr. Julian Nida-Rümelin, former Minister of the State;
Prof. Dr. Gianni Vattimo), significant representatives of the church (Bishop Prof. Dr. Christoph Kähler; Bishop Prof. Dr.
Joachim Wanke) and exceptional representatives of society (Prof. Dr. Dagmar Schipanski, Minister of Science, Research, and
Art in Thuringia; Prof. Dr. Ernst-Ludwig Winnacker, President of the Deutsche Forschungs Gemeinschaft) put forward their
arguments and "translate" them. Thus, a basis is provided on which an enlightened public discussion can take place so that
opinions can be developed based on knowledge rather than prejudices.

International Participation
We particularly welcome and encourage international participation in the conference, although all
presentations will be in German. In a world that gradually grows closer together, an intense international
exchange is essential for finding solutions to problems in the field of human-biotechnology.
