When does the Wartburg Conference take place?
The conference takes place from 21st June 2006 to 23rd June 2006 at the Wartburg Hotel in Eisenach.

At this historically important site of the Wartburg where Martin Luther once translated the New Testament into German, the Wartburg Conference also wants to achieve translation and information although of a different kind. This year’s Wartburg conference is the second of a series of conferences that started in 2004. The current conference “Future Cancer Research as a Challenge for Society” intends to communicate the most recent developments in the field of molecular genetic cancer research and the legal and ethical evaluations connected with it. Top national and international scientists (see programme) will inform about the most recent findings on the development of cancer, diagnostics, and therapy in a way that makes it interdisciplinary accessible. This will also include an international comparison (Germany-USA) of the treatment of patients with cancer. Well-known ethicists and jurists as well representatives of the pharmaceutical industry are invited in order to discuss the ethical and legal backgrounds of molecular genetic diagnostics and research and consider questions of whether modern cancer therapy is still affordable for our society and how benefits and costs can be allocated fairly.

This conference is addressed to scientists as well as interested citizens. It is a joint project of Deutsche Krebshilfe e.V. (German Cancer Aid) and Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (German Cancer Research Centre) and Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) and Ethikzentrum Jena (Ethics Centre of the University of Jena). The initiators would like to invite you to this year’s conference and hope to welcome you on the 21st of June 2006 at the Wartburg Hotel.
